Instead of scaling, try increasing fonts sizes. However IME, scaling works fine so you might review your driver settings? I haven't had to deal with nvdia for quite awhile. I do have a laptop top with dual video cards - nvidia+intel - I just use the Intel card and scaling a 4k monitor to 150% works perfectly.
As far as SDDM, IME that's unrelated to your desktop video settings. SDDM doesn't use any desktop settings at all. I may have it's own "theme" which you can enlarge the fonts if you'd like, but zero desktop settings have any effect on SDDM.Comment
