Re: Jaunty Release Schedule, Plans, KDE 4.2

As to the statement in KDE 4.2 Released (Kubuntu):

"Old Plasma packages are not compatible with KDE 4.2, you should uninstall any plasmoids."

Should they be uninstalled via the package manager (Adept or Synaptic), or just by removing them via Add Widgets > -

Adept Manager shows (on a search of plasmoid) the following packages as installed:

        plasmoid-quickaccess
        plasmoid-lancelot

Add Widgets shows the following widgets in use:

        Application Launcher
        Digital Clock
        Konsole Profiles Applet
        Lancelot Launcher
        New Device Notifier
        Pager
        Quick Access
        Show Dashboard
        System Tray
        Task Manager
        Trashcan

        Thank you.

I just closed them down, so that they are not running (Add Widgets >-).

          Then i did a
          Code:
          sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
          and
The following packages will be upgraded:
          plasmoid-playwolf plasmoid-quickaccess plasmoid-rememberthemilk
          plasmoid-spellcheck plasmoid-toggle-compositing...
          ...plasmoid-adjustableclock plasmoid-cashew-off plasmoid-embed-win plasmoid-lastmoid

Adept Manager shows (on a search of plasmoid) the following packages as installed:

          plasmoid-quickaccess
          plasmoid-lancelot

Add Widgets shows the following widgets in use:

          Application Launcher
          Digital Clock
          Konsole Profiles Applet
          Lancelot Launcher
          New Device Notifier
          Pager
          Quick Access
          Show Dashboard
          System Tray
          Task Manager
          Trashcan
There are plasmoids that are part of the KDE release:

          - package: kdebase-plasma
          - package: kdeplasma-addons
          - package: kdeplasma-addons-data

Plasmoids from the KDE packages have always the right version.

and then there are plasmoids from the single packages:

          - package: plasmoid-adjustableclock
          - package: plasmoid-memusage
          - ...

Those can have the wrong version, before they are compiled against correct libplasma-dev.

Hmm - Lancelot is now part of the KDE:

          kdeplasma-addons
plasmoids for KDE 4 Plasma - main package
          ...(installed files)...
          /usr/lib/kde4/plasma_applet_lancelot_launcher.so
          /usr/lib/kde4/plasma_applet_lancelot_part.so
          ...
Do you have two versions installed ?

Yea! It's Here! I know what I'll be doing today! Did they fix the issue with Kopete and MSN?

Yes, the latest kopete should bring in libmsn0.1. Note that you probably need to readd your account to kopete (the protocol is called WLM instead of the old MSN)

yippee , reset my pen drive to running 4.2 right now...even works on work pc...yippee times 2!

Looks and feels very nice...still got a few tiny problems but as I have never run any alpha or beta distros I am VERY impressed

Yep.. Just did all of that. One note. I have a bunch of Plasmoids still in the list of useable but they don't work. They are Luna, Weather and Lacelot. Are those still broken? If so, how do I remove them from the list? I'm not upset that they aren't working, I just want them out of the list until such time they do work.

Not that this thread is the place for this, but WOW. KDE4.2 is sweet! The only thing I've found not the way I had it are my Plasmoids. I can deal for a while. KDE4.2 runs so much smoother than KDE4.1.x.

No, just one. Synaptic shows it as installed - version 1.0.3~svn860641-0ubuntu2, and it was installed via Synaptic, so good there.

The following packages are identified to be kept back:

                      gwenview kmahjongg

kmahjongg I can uninstall, but gwenview is part of KDE 4.1.x. Should I have any concern with this?

plasmoid-lancelot is a legacy package that should be removed (lancelot has moved to kdeplasma-addons)

Where can you get a list of what "kdeplasma-addons" has? Laptop still shows my Compositing On/Off while the Desktop doesn't. Also, laptop show Cashew Off and Desktop doesn't. So something is amiss on one of the two.

                            ...
You can also list the contents of a package, by running:

                            $ apt-file list packagename

apt-file keeps a database of which files all packages contain, just like auto-apt does and it needs to be up-to-date. This is done by running:

                            # apt-file update
                            => Install apt-file /1/

                            Code:
                            sudo apt-file update
                            search:
                            Code:
                            apt-file search filename
                            and
                            Code:
                            apt-file list packagename

                            After installation

                            man dpkg
                            ...
                            dpkg -L | --listfiles package ...
List files installed to your system from package.
                            ..
                            =>
                            Code:
                            dpkg -L kdeplasma-addons

Synaptic > Search "kdeplasma-addons" > Right click "kdeplasma-addons" > Properties > Installed Files - tab (The list of installed files is only available for installed packages)
