Very nice job on the eclipse photo, Stuart. Yes, the horizontal dispersal of sunlight adjacent to the path of totality in the high haze over Kentucky that afternoon made it very difficult to figure "how dark is it going to get?". Thinking I was smarter than my camera, I turned off auto control and set the aperture way open and the shutter speed way slow. I would have been better off letting the camera figure that stuff out. But I had made a pinhole camera for my wife and I had a pair of binoculars with which to project the image, so we had fun looking at it even though I didn't catch a photo of it.

That photo was from my cell phone - no cover or protection - right at the totality. We had 2:46 of it where we were and, thankfully, a clear sky. It was a fun day.

Last PSU test: Today, I installed StarCraft 2 and played it for 3 hours. GPU ran at full load the hole time, no problem. Even with the closed case and full-blown hi-def graphics running for 3 hours, CPU stayed at 32° and the GPU peaked at 50° - that's when it's fans kick into high speed.

That's kinda hot isn't it? My CPU is water cooled which explains that difference, but yours seem really high for idle.

Those temps are Centigrade, just so it's clear. No way in Hell that any CPU, while running, would operate at 32 degrees Fahrenheit! Vinny is reporting his CPU temps in Fahrenheit.

yes that is true ,,,,but still you would think it's a bit high for idle ,,,,but even at high load it usually never gets above 75C or 167F ,,,,except 1 time wile doing a set of phoronix tests it held at 185F approximately each.

What CPU are you using? My old Q6600 would get that hot, but AFAIK these newer CPUs aren't intended to get that hot. My CPU would start to issue shutdown warnings at 80°/176°. Any chance your sensors aren't configured right? My idle is 17-21° - 63-70°F (water cooling is awesome). My GPU runs hotter because it's on air. My old GPUs were also water cooled but I didn't bother with the expense when I upgraded my to current card. It has "smart" fan control and is rarely noisy.

Keep in mind, Vinny is running a robust laptop and you a desktop PC. In Vinny's case, he could likely benefit from getting the dust out.

If you haven't done so already, I would contact System76 and ask if temps in that range, and that your fan is continuously running, is 'normal' for your rig, of if it is indicative of something needing attention.

it's always ran this high ,,,,from the start ,,,,but I will contact them and see if they are still wiling to give some info on this ,,,,,,,it,s been 2-3 years .
