    The wallpapers folder did not exist here. I did create the folder /var/lib/plasmalogin/wallpapers and put my wallpaper in there, but no change.

    There is only one login screen option in System Settings labeled "Login Screen(SDDM)" and it's under Appearance. There's a "Boot Splash Screen" menu item. It has both an "Apply" button in lower right and "Apply Plasma Settings" button on the menu bar. I have "Breeze" selected with a custom wallpaper selected in it.

      I also created (because it did not exist) /etc/plasmalogin.conf with these contents:

      Code:
      [Greeter]
      WallpaperPluginId=darkblue2160.jpg

        Look closer and further down the left panel. You do not want to use the SDDM one, you are not using SDDM .

        Use the one under Security and Privacy.

        They really need to make it more clear, and maybe stop moving things around.

        And deactivated or unavailable sections should not be showing up in search unless the option to show them is turned on.

            OK, totally worked that time. It even deleted the wallpaper I inserted in the plasmalogin/wallpapers and replaced it with the one from my user folders where I had selected it.

              I don't understand why the login wallpaper would be a "Security & Privacy" function rather than "Appearance & Style" function, so I didn't notice that option when I was in System Settings.

                It's like screen locking, I guess, with both appearance and regular settings? But if the SDDM entry was properly hidden from the search results it would not be an issue.

                And it does not explain why I could not change my wallpaper initially. I assume my usual pebkac was at play.
