MOK fails at work xwayland xserver updates

Important security fix today (last 3), the first package or maybe others caused a secure boot issue. Mainline Kernel no longer boots unless secure boot is disabled. sudo mokutil --disable-validation has no effect by now. First time I see that bug.

    Code:
    grep "upgrade " /var/log/dpkg.log
    ...
    2021-04-13 10:36:40 upgrade shim-signed:amd64 1.45+15+1552672080.a4a1fbe-0ubuntu2 1.46+15.4-0ubuntu1
    2021-04-13 18:26:22 upgrade libqt5svg5:amd64 5.15.2-2 5.15.2-3
    2021-04-13 18:26:22 upgrade ubuntu-minimal:amd64 1.466 1.467
    2021-04-13 18:26:22 upgrade ubuntu-standard:amd64 1.466 1.467
    2021-04-13 18:26:22 upgrade python3-problem-report:all 2.20.11-0ubuntu63 2.20.11-0ubuntu64
    2021-04-13 18:26:23 upgrade python3-apport:all 2.20.11-0ubuntu63 2.20.11-0ubuntu64
    2021-04-13 18:26:23 upgrade apport:all 2.20.11-0ubuntu63 2.20.11-0ubuntu64
    2021-04-13 18:26:23 upgrade apport-kde:all 2.20.11-0ubuntu63 2.20.11-0ubuntu64
    2021-04-13 18:26:23 upgrade xserver-common:all 2:1.20.10-3ubuntu7 2:1.20.11-1ubuntu1
    2021-04-13 18:26:23 upgrade xserver-xorg-legacy:amd64 2:1.20.10-3ubuntu7 2:1.20.11-1ubuntu1
    2021-04-13 18:26:23 upgrade xserver-xorg-core:amd64 2:1.20.10-3ubuntu7 2:1.20.11-1ubuntu1
    2021-04-13 18:26:23 upgrade xwayland:amd64 2:21.0.99.902-0ubuntu1 2:21.1.1-0ubuntu1
Also, since post #98, our ThinkPad booted 2-3 times in MoK with an unusual response: system reset. I would expect to see that one today.

Not the case, must keep secure boot disabled. Must add the fact that apport is disabled and that may also be an interference.

    Wayland session

If we were left on our appetite at this stage in Groovy, it is not the case of Hirsute. Kubuntu 21.04 is up to date and I don't mind about not having kde frameworks 5.81.

We have tested Wayland for a long time now and it is working properly. The mouse hesitation is gone now. Also, the IPTV player Hypnotix got a workaround this winter and works now with the following cmd line that opens many other apps:

    Code:
    GDK_BACKEND=x11 hypnotix
    Code:
    echo $DESKTOP_SESSION
    plasmawayland
For those who may want to jump, Saturday would be better. Unless the version you are running is bug free, a clean install is by far the best thing to do. Major updates are in the latest ISO.

I don't have any bugs to report since 3 weeks, even latte-dock default works fine. Not to say that I feel that Hirsute is the best version ever made by our team. +1

    All the best,

I continue to find this distribution to be amazingly reliable. I previously reported problems with LibreOffice and now I have pre-release candidates enabled and it is working very well. I had previously encountered LibreOffice Impress artefacts with embedded movies being displaced in the control viewing window. I now find that the video image is perfectly located.

BTW I have KDE Frameworks 5.81.0 installed as I use the staging frameworks ppa. No doubt it will be coming soon for the standard packages.

I have also tested the Wayland version of 21.04 and it still needs more refinement to catch up with the X11 version. The System Settings > Display and Monitor does not provide more than one resolution option for my Laptop screen but provides them all for my External display. Also there is no option for selecting a Primary display. In spite of this limitation, LibreOffice impress now works as it should, though somewhat slower, particularly on embedded videos which are jerky.

The old problem on not restoring the previous session is still present. Also Wayland seems to take much longer to shutdown than X11.

So from what I have stated above, you will not be surprised that I highly recommend 21.04 as a production desktop - NOW.

Hirsute is pretty set for the big leagues, only fine tunings ahead final ISO on the 22nd. Maybe we will get the latest kde frameworks 5.81 this week, but it's getting late.

Yes, I am happily enjoying being able to get onto the latest page, ie 11. I think I was only blocked from access for a brief period.

Is this still the case for you? I can get to all pages of this thread, and not being able to isn't unique to specific members. When it happens, it happens to everyone (and can be fixed, if I'm told about it).

I firstly tried purging all LibreOffice office and also removing all related packages. By reinstalling LibreOffice again it made no difference.

I finally unchecked the Pre-released Updates option in Muon and repeated the purge and reinstallation of LibreOffice. This solved my crashing problem with LibreOffice when I try to move the Properties panel. It also solved another problem that I had with the LibreOffice expanded menus not located under the item being selected.

So I can now use LibreOffice with confidence on my UHD system.

I have my graphic in the home directory files .face and .face.icon. I cannot find any location in System Settings to define this graphic.
Possibly related to some of the home directory default permission changes that Ubuntu wanted to make for this release. e.g. perhaps sddm cannot access the faces files now.
