You can install the exfat utilities and reformat the flash.

    Install with:
    Code:
    sudo apt-get install exfat-fuse exfat-utils

Short answer: Don't use FAT. Any other file system is fine. If you need Winblows compatibility, then use ExFAT as jglen490 suggests
