Middle button mouse click on desktop results in a sticky note?

I just experienced this for the first time this morning - when I middle click on the desktop, a Sticky Note appears apparently with the contents of the most rescent "copy" command.

Is this new or have I just never middle-clicked on my desktop?

Why does this happen - as in what good is it actually?

How do I turn it off, or even better, configure a more useful action?

##EDIT##: I found where to turn it off. In "General Behavior", "Middle-click:" had "Paste selected text" enabled. Disabling it stops the behavior.

Oddly, if I "CTRL-V" on the desktop with no window selected, nothing happens.

Also, it doesn't appear I can change the default sticky note. Yellow is not may favorite color.

No it's not at all new. KDE 4 is when it started.

You can change actions via the Configure Desktop/Folder View context menu, under Mouse Actions.

I'm going from memory but I think it's accurate.

You can remove middle click altogether or change it to a small number of options. I can't remember if middle click actions are even added by default or not, I'm not sure.

Back in the day, and even a fair amount into Plasma 5, it was easy to accidentally trigger a sticky note by mistake, but mainly by stray taps and dragging of highlighted text
