    Dropbox--lost the GUI

At some point I lost the GUI for Dropbox. As I recall, it's Nautilus-based. Has this happened to anyone else? Do you recall how you fixed it? I have a question in to Dropbox Support but thought I'd ask here, too. Everything works as expected, i.e., files sync on DB's server, I'm just missing its GUI.

There is several service options on Dolphin one can download, and the Nautilus option is in the repository.

I'm lost. Dropbox was basically no help, saying that even though Kubuntu is a variant of Ubuntu, they don't support it.

I had already tried uninstalling/reinstalling but that didn't bring back the GUI.

Does anyone know the CLI command to start DB with its GUI? I know I have the damned thing, I just don't know how to get it running again. I looked at the list of installed files in its Synaptic entry, and tried running a few of them, but nothing.

Also, GG, I'm lost regarding your Dolphin remark...downloadable from where?

        Start Dolphin.
Click the Dolphin "Settings" --> "Configure Dolphin" menu option.
Click on the Services icon in the left panel.
In the right panel click on the "Download Services" button.
In that dialog GUI enter "dropbox" in the search text box. Three options will appear. The first, "KDE Services" is the one you want. Click on its "Install" button Do NOT install the 2nd option, even though it is labeled "Dropbox service menu" because it depends on Python2 and it won't work on our Python3 systems. The third option might be useful to you as well.

Or, you can visit this site: https://store.kde.org/p/998464 and download that "KDE Services" for Dolphin tar file (5th offering) from there. The other offerings are RPM based.
Here is how to install and uninstall it:
Steps for install source code from terminal:
        -------------------------------------------------------------
        1- tar xf kde-services-3.0.1.tar.bz2
        2- cd kde-services-3.0.1
        3- sudo make install

Steps for uninstall source code from terminal:
        -----------------------------------------------------------------
        1- tar xf kde-services-3.0.1.tar.bz2
        2- cd kde-services-3.0.1
        3- sudo make uninstall
Here is what it supplies (besides the kitchen sink!)
        Code:

As to "gui" do you mean the tray icon, and access to the settings, or to a file manager window? Mine here opens a dolphin window when I double click it. Not sure what Nautilus integration adds.

the command to run the dropbox tray applet as downloaded from Dropbox is

          Code:
          dropbox start -i

On my "old" Kubuntu 14.04 I lost the tray icon some time ago and have lived without it. On a new Kubuntu 18.04 installation, it's there and the menu and settings UI are available. But both just have the 'dropbox' package installed (not nautilus-dropbox which is an empty package just depending on dropbox).

So I think it is probably something messed up in the config ... but I haven't tried isolating it.
I'd rather be locked out than locked in.

I haven't looked lately, but I believe nautilus-dropbox is just a dummy transitional package [in Synaptic]. If I uninstall DB, then both dropbox and nautilus-dropbox disappear from Synaptic; the only way to get them back is to install DB via its downloaded package.

Thread moved because it's clearly a on-topic discussion.
