[SOLVED] mc can not open images

    Hello

Newest kubuntu. gwenview is installed. When using mc and typing enter on png file - gwenview is started but it can not open that png file.
It looks like kde is intercepting that, creating temp file, and forcing gwenview to open that temp file - which is failing.

    When typing from the shell:
    #gwenview filename.png
    Everything is working fine.

I have tried to configure global settings for mc as per article:
    https://ubuntuincident.wordpress.com...mc-open-files/

But it did not help - still some temp files which can not be opened by gwenview.
    How to fix it ?

    Thanks,

@hear mc opens a file with the systems(KDE) settings ,,,,,,gwenview is working as expected .

did you install mc with the package manager CLI ?

      Vinny -

      "# gwinview filename.png"

He's running "as root"? A user home directory ownership issue maybe?

good question ,,,,,,,egg on my face .......I did not notice the root prompt .

more likely a "root system setting's" thing ,,,,,,root can do as root will with files .

          Folks,

you were right, unprivileged user worked fine.
I was thinking that root will inherit global mc.ext settings but it does not seem so.
After i have edited the settings for root it started working fine.

          Thanks,

I'm going to point out the 800 lb. gorilla in the room and ask: Why are you viewing images as root?

It's your system so do what you want; but in my view (and I'm not alone) you should be doing nothing as root that's not part of system administration. You're asking for trouble and you will continue to find things that will not work, right up to the point where you break your install and have to start over.
