Windows 7 convert-Things to do after fresh install?

    Hi...completely new to Kubuntu.

Is there a check list of things to do online after install?

I've heard with Ubuntu that you need to activate repositories, get codecs, etc.

Hoping someone can tell me where to get the list for a Kubuntu install. Thanks.

Just start using it. You'll figure out as you go what extra packages you need to seek out.

If you are that anxious look at "The Perfect Desktop - Kubuntu 9.10" - http://www.howtoforge.com/the-perfec...p-kubuntu-9.10

What is perfect? Perfect for who? What if it is NOT the prefect desktop for YOU?

It's probably a good idea to install Firefox (since, in my opinion, Konqueror is a joke). This can be done from the installer that can be found under the "Internet" menu in the "Applications" tab of the Kickoff menu (blue button with the white "K," similar to the Start menu in Windows). Also, you'll probably want to install Flash, which you can download from Adobe's website. The best way to install it is to download it as a ".deb" package and click on the package to install it.

HTH! PM me if you have questions!

I agree with that, except I would recommend installing Synaptic as the GUI package manager. In a Konsole:

                  sudo apt-get update
                  sudo apt-get install synaptic

Then, a new Kubuntu user can gradually get used to the CLI, if they want to use it.

That's what I did too. using synaptic to access universe and multiverse is easier IMO
