    "GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT line" ... ah yes, the newfangled way to do it with GRUB 2.
    Nice work! Actually, GRUB Legacy had that capability, too, but very few people ever used it. Glad you got it!

      Would've have got it without your help.
      Once I had your help I was able to better google the values and options for what I needed to do.

      The google searches I tried before were full of people trying to do the opposite of what I wanted to do - uninstall kubuntu and grub to boot straight up into windows.

      I am all setup now! I managed to set up my LAMPP server and configure it, configured kate to my likings, and even got my sound working (the only thing that didn't work out of the box).

      Hopefully I can help some other people around these forums once I get more acquainted with the KDE software and ubuntu.
