Terminal command cheat sheet widget?

I was consolidating a couple "cheat sheet" text files I have - because I'm old and my memory isn't always great, I take notes.

I had the idea that a desktop pop up widget that would display 20-30 lines of text would be useful. Like maybe a System Tray Icon that would pop open with the contents of a file and let you select a line to copy and paste.

Even better, an add-on to Konsole or Yakuake that would let you select a stored command and paste it in the terminal for you.


Anyone one know of anything like this?

I think Tuxedo or something similar has a widget but I can't recall how it was activated. I'll see if I can find it later on.

That's interesting. Way more than I wanted but if it's customizable so maybe. I think I really just want to pop open a list, and select a one liner to copy so I can paste it.

I don't see any similar widget on Tuxedo default install yet...

Take a look at Xpad. I just installed it (sudo apt install xpad). Very light, has what I think you want, and only installs the following packages:

libgtksourceview-4-0 libgtksourceview-4-common xpad

After you launch it, it sits in the System Tray. No shortcut to launch it that I have found, but after you do launch it you can manage Notes with shortcuts. A launch shortcut can be set in the application. I set it to Ctrl+X.
