 references to meerkats are hot in the UK due to the antics of a price comparison website called comparethemarket.com. As part of the marketing they've set up comparethemeerkat.com as well.

 Looking at the ages of people here, I must be pretty old by human standards here sigh... My first use of a computer language was with Pascal and BSD (from Berkeley University), at the time I was deeply involved in what was to become the computer industry, via a company called Plessey, in which I was working on switchgear for the Gemini Space Rockets (NASA) which was pretty hush-hush at the time, then later I joined International Computers and learned some more... sigh...
