I have a couple programs as appimages. They're great - nothing added to the OS, just a launch-able package. I agree with what I think jlitttle was partly expressing, that it's not the concept, but the implementation of snaps that's the larger annoyance. The idea that a piece of software might exist in an agnostic way similar to how an OS can exist in a VM isn't a bad idea.

There is NO need to run snapd 24/7/365 unless Canonical was doing telemetry, i.e., spying. Neither Muon nor Synaptic find it necessary to run a daemon all the time and they work just fine.

I just noticed that unlike Kubuntu, Neon did not create a Swapfile during install. I have 14Gb free memory (!6Gb installed but the system has integrated graphics) so just made an 8Gb Swapfile just in case.Constant change is here to stay!Comment

One of the latest improvements (IMO) of KDEneon over Kubuntu is the adaptation of Calamares installer instead of Ubiquity. I suspect the lack of a SWAP may be a configuration of the installer. I'd have to run through it again, but it might be worth filing a bug on. At least there should be an option to create a swap file. I liked the new installer. It wasn't obvious at first how to install the system on my 128Gb SSD and have /home on the 1Tb HDD but I found it eventually.
As for Swp, I didn't create a Swap partition for the boss's Mint system and my Kubuntu system when I installed them. They both created a 4Gb Swapfile automagically. I assumed Neon would do likewise. No biggie, Linux Uprising to the rescue!

snapd is constantly running because of the architecture of the snaps, the daemon does the background work for all snap apps, like creating the sandboxes as necessary, keeping them updated etc. (and having it running makes starting snap apps quite a bit faster, for example).Originally posted by GreyGeek View Post

First started using KDE with Neon so I'm a big fan!
However--for me that is--Neon just like Kubuntu, does not output audio correctly on my headphones
Prior to 20.04 stereo on headphones worked as expected
My Windows 10 and Manjaro partitions output to the headphones as expected
(I'll check-in periodically with Neon to see if this gets resolved)Comment

Upgrade to 20.04 went smoothly on my main desktop. Had to re download my scanner drivers and update all my PPAs to focal afterwards. All my steam games now running smoothly.
Only folding at home have me headaches. But that's to be expected since they haven't update for 20.04 yet.
