    DigiKam broken

Digikam was working fine before the last update but now it just crashes and burns.

Starting it from Konsole, I get this:

    Code:
    [wayne@Wayne-IdeaCentre ~]$ digikam
ASSERT failure in KCatalogPrivate::setupGettextEnv: "You need to instantiate a
Q*Application before using KCatalog", file ./src/i18n/kcatalog.cpp, line 306
    Aborted (core dumped)
    [wayne@Wayne-IdeaCentre ~]$
Constant change is here to stay!

Could not even get the downloaded program to install here. Wondering if it may be a wayland thing.

The neon packages installed and run fine for me here.

Downloaded? What do you mean here? Should either be neon's debs from the repos, or flatpak/snap. Appimage, perhaps? Sometimes, those are just broken, depending on how they were made.

Wayland won't have an effect on this.

I see the same error on the KDE neon (latest user edition) as well.
Have you had any luck inn fixing it?

Enabled flatpak on Kubuntu 25.10 and installed digikam and it works fine. Big file though. But it will work.

It's broken in Wayland and X11. I refuse to install Snaps or Flatpaks!

That's your choice. but the flatpak works. Hope you find a solution that works for you.

It's still broken even after today's massive update. KDE Neon just doesn't seem to get the love it deserves these days!

It looks like I may have to replace it with CachyOS, I've been playing with it on a test machine for quite a while and
                  it hasn't broken yet!

                  I'm also looking at a Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 5 Gen 10 (83HV003DJP)

                  AMD Ryzen™ 7 8845HS (3.80 GHz 最大 5.10 GHz)
                  AMD Radeon™ 780M グラフィックス
                  32 GB DDR5-5600MT/s (SODIMM)(2 x 16 GB)
                  1 TB SSD M.2 2242 PCIe-NVMe Gen4 TLC

And will definitely nuke the windows install. I think it will be better supported with the newer CachyOS kernels!

Digikam never stopped working for me here. Two systems. No, three, actually, until last week before I trimmed it down to two neon installs.

What beats me is there is no file called:

                      ./src/i18n/kcatalog.cpp

It just does not exist, anywhere, and Groogling brings up zero results!

                          That's a source file, iirc.

I wonder why I am not seeing this.

It is the same one Acheron posted previously, fixed in 8.9.0, not released yet, it seems.

You might try a pre-release appimage for the moment, until there is a final release, maybe.
