Just a chat: Can't fix my nagging issues so it off to report bugs...sigh.

    Comments or suggestions welcome.

Historically, starting around 2010, I did a fresh Kubuntu install at every .04 release. Then a few years later, tired of the extra effort, I switched to LTS only and did a fresh install then. Somewhere around 2016 when it was first announced, I dove into KDEneon and loved it every since. An LTS base with the latest KDE updates - still seems like the best of the best. I did a fresh 2018 install, but there after I decided to give the upgrade path a go, and it's been great - until now. I have two niggling issues that I cannot seem to resolve, both of which seem tied to my install and not my user - meaning I've experienced both issues with multiple user accounts and more than one install. I thought about a re-install to a new KDEneon but since both issues reoccur on my new KDEneon VM, there's no point.

    1. Printing paper size
For about 6 months now every time I use a KDE app to print (Gwenview, Kate, etc.) the paper size is set at "Photo 3.5x5". This began when I printed a photo and set the paper size to that setting. From then on, it has become the default. As far as I can recall, this is new. "Letter" has been my default setting forever. I have searched hours and hours through every file folder I can think of the find where this might have gotten set or changed but to no avail.

Yesterday, I noticed something new - if I opened the print dialog, select "Letter", then close it without printing, when I re-open the dialog the paper size is blank rather than Photo 3.5x5. I also noticed that Photo 3.5x5 is the first size in the list. I now believe the paper size setting is simply not being honored by KDE and Photo 3.5x5 is simply the top of the list. This would explain why I can't find it as a setting anywhere.

Also noticeably, the print dialog takes awhile to load. I'm not sure if they're connected or if the slow loading dialog is unrelated.

Note that in non-KDE apps like LibreOffice, the paper size is defaulted to the system papersize setting which is Letter.

This morning I tested this issue on a brand new KDEneon install in a VM and the paper setting behavior is the same as above so a clean install won't fix it.

    2. Subtitle Composer video view window broken
I have a media library for my Plex server and I like to have subtitles available locally on my server rather then relying on the web to provide them, It's faster and more in my control. I can correct and edit the SRT files to my liking.

For those who don't use this program, if you have an SRT (subtitle) file in the same folder as the video with the same name, clicking on the SRT file opens Subtitle Composer with the SRT text loaded in the lower half and a small video viewing window that allows you to play the video with the subtitles displayed on the video. Along side is an audio time-line scroll. This brilliantly allows you to see and edit in real time to ensure your subtitles match the dialog and timing and you can slide the time up and down to your liking. It's a wonderful tool.

About a month or so ago, I noticed the video view window no longer works. It now appears as a fixed half-black blank video view and a half-mirror of the titlebar. I observe the exact same behavior in the new KDEneon VM. My temporary work around is to uninstall Subtitle Composer from the repos and install the flatpack version which works well except I can't control the text size of the menu bars so I have the lean in and squint to select a function from the tool bar. I was able to increase the font of the subtitle viewing so at least I can read that.

EDIT: By setting Display Configuration to use "Scaled by the system" for Legacy applications I can now read the title bar in Subtitle Composer.

So off to bug reporting. I make a regular daily backup and keep 3 months worth so it might be useful to boot up the 90 day old version and see if both of these issues were present that far back.
