    [SOLVED] Updates

    I installed Neon as a solo on my DT about two weeks ago and it has been about as flawless an experience and one could hope for. It is absolutely perfect, and I am not being melodramatic. There is not a single thing broken, or odd, or "wait to be fixed". No glitches, no crashes, no bugs. Nothing. Perfect (knock on wood).

    However, other than after the initial post-install updates, I have not had a another update from them at all. I have gotten updates from my installed PPAs, but nothing from Neon/Kubuntu.

    Is this normal, or have I broken something?

      I am seeing them as well... but no notifications? Are they perhaps being held back? Should I wait?

        How about
        Code:
        pkcon refresh && pkcon get-updates
        pkcon update
        ?

          For sure. I had already done a simulated run. Shows me there are grub and python updates as well. I am just curious why I seem to not be getting notifications. Discover is only showing me the firmware, but that only happened after I actually ran discover. Perhaps I should have waited a bit longer.

            Well, I get update notifications here. I wonder if you're missing some package?

              You might check the Notifications settings for Discover and see if it's "on"

                  OK, turns out it is one of the minor differences between Kubuntu and Neon. It seems if I set updates to be "online", Neon (or something) sets an "Updates offline" flag on the plasmoid.

                  Normally I do app updates online, then critical system updates offline. Kubuntu always notified me, regardless of the settings. My install of Neon, however, does not. Even switching it back to Offline, does not trigger a notification as it would in Kubi. However, I decided to see if it needed a reboot after the setting, and sure enough... it did.

                  So it seems Neon is not happy with online updates (it is also not happy when I try to use apt update and says "If you MUST use apt, then use dist-upgrade...". I got told off by an app ).

                    It seems I probably should have waited a day or two more. I do not think I did anything to fix anything and shortly after it seemed to go back to semi-broken and I was like "hmmmm". But, literally a day later, a flood of updates arrived without bidding from me (including the update to 26.5), and have continued to arrive. Given how extensive the updates have been (like almost the whole system) all has gone very well. Other than overwriting my SDDM config (I was prepared and have a backup), its been flawless. I am very impressed. Very impressed indeed.
