Yeah, I installed all the needed stuff - headers, hwe, and extras. It built Nvidia and bbswitch but not virtualbox. Oddly, after checking the dkms make logs all three dkms builds threw errors but only virtualbox didn't install. I suspect if I rebooted into 4.10 it would be a mess. I'm gonna wait it out I think.

spoke to quick on this point ,,,,the wireless dropouts are still hear IF both the hard wire and wireless are active/connected,,,,,,,the system is right in doing it though I think as traffic is sent to the hard wire if it's plugged in and I'm not forcing in some way for them both to be used ,,,,so the wireless is idle and should be "timed out" I guess.Originally posted by vinnywright View PostWeeeeellllllll ,,,ya I installed that manualy from the mainline last night ,,,,,,,
AND on that note ,,,,it seemed to fix a quirk I was having with the wireless dropping in and out IF a wired connection was running as well ,,,,,, I have 2 wireless access points configured ,,,,,I had 1 active , and the wired connection ,,,, the 1 wireless would "time out" and the second would kick in ,,,, few more minutes that one would "time out" and the first one would kick in , and on and on and on ,,,,,,,,installed the 4.10 kernel and it quit.

well ,,,,last night , I tryed the -edge package from the repo ,,,,,I did it the smae way I did the linux-image-generic-hwe-16.04 install ,,,,and found (MY) mistake ,,,,,Originally posted by oshunluvr View PostI can't get the 4.10 kernel from Ubuntu - not the mainline kernel, the regular ppa - to build dkms modules. Gives me this:
ERROR (dkms apport): kernel package linux-headers-4.10.0-14-generic is not supported
this time I slowed down some , I can be quick to hit that enter key sometimes , I ran simulations of the install first
yes that would be a good practice to keep .
and looked at it ,,,,,,,, what ,, wheres the headers ,,,,,,,,you need headers to build modules rite.Code:vinny@vinny-Bonobo-Extreme:~$ sudo apt-get -s install linux-image-generic-hwe-16.04-edge [sudo] password for vinny: Reading package lists... I look closer and more thoroughly through the package search ,,,,and find
well I did not think that it would not be a dependency of the kernel package ,,,,,,yes I should have known better , in my haste was thinking "meta package" not just "pointer to the latest"Code:vinny@vinny-Bonobo-Extreme:~$ apt show linux-headers-generic-hwe-16.04-edge Package: linux-headers-generic-hwe-16.04-edge Version: 4.10.0.14.11 Priority: optional Section: kernel Source: linux-meta-hwe-edge Origin: Ubuntu Maintainer: Ubuntu Kernel Team <kernel-team@lists.ubuntu.com> Bugs: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+filebug Installed-Size: 9,216 B Depends: linux-headers-4.10.0-14-generic Supported: 5y Download-Size: 2,390 B APT-Sources: http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial-updates/main amd64 Packages Description: Generic Linux kernel headers This package will always depend on the latest generic kernel headers available.
