I just updated the debian kde4 installation (as described above) to 4.0.98 and get the theme=......issue which was easily fixed:

So my guess is this is a kubuntu issue.

After my last experience. I'm waiting a few days. Right now I have Beta 2 working a charm. Noticed that they say some packages may still be compiling. That may have been my problem the last time I jumped at it. Going to be a little patient (just a little).

Well, now that the patches worked things out ( in Intrepid / kde4 RC1) you can now move icons / widgets on the panel when you open up the panel settings slider

I haven't tried the HH upgrade to KDE4 RC1 yet but would assume it works there as well.

I just gave the HH remix upgrade to RC a shot.

still no: alt+F2>kdesudo kate, konqueror, etc
this really has me pissed off.

Took the plunge and all went very smoothly. As noted above those two things are the only complaints I have so far. My personal Log-On Screen still doesn't work completely. Somewhat liked what the new Default looks like, so I might "borrow" from that . All in all, very functional. No, not fully customizable like 3.5.9, but I'm sure that'll come in time. Very nice OS. As I said, I'm really around 98% productive. No crashes or hangs. I can live with this. As far as the Alt-F2/Kdesudo, that may be an issue that it is from the 8.04 remix and will be fixed, I hope, by 8.10.

No, I installed a clean HH and then added KDE 4.1 Beta from PPA, and I have no Alt-F2 functionality either. There are a couple of other niggling issues that tell me it's not quite right here -- the "fanfare" music doesn't finish playing when I boot, for example, and compiz loads automatically only about one out of three times that I boot Kubuntu. The basic 8.04 Linux system is solid and stable, but the KDE 4 part of it continues to be a little shaky. I've spent all the time I care to invest in fiddling with it (not all that much, honestly), so I think I'll just wait until there's a beta release of 8.10, and dive into that, hoping to get a better KDE 4 in the process.

Probalby, although I cannot by the life of figure out why that hasn't been solved in the remx---->RC1.

With the Intrepid, there was upgrade kdesudo (2.5.1-0ubuntu3) to 3.2-0ubuntu1. After this i have to remove and reinstall kdesudo. There was/is overlapping:

sudo apt-get install kdesudo

I just saw that as well. Did a refresh and presto
kdesudo (3.2-0ubuntu2)
was available.

Used your force and it works, except for kdesudo kate. I get kate not wanting to fully load. WhenI terminate and run kdesudo kate again it works.

After todays upgrade (Intrepid) I got this:

To divert all copies of a /usr/bin/example to /usr/bin/example.foo, i.e. directs all packages providing /usr/bin/example to install it as /usr/bin/example.foo, performing the rename if required:
dpkg-divert --divert /usr/bin/example.foo --rename /usr/bin/example


To remove that diversion:
dpkg-divert --rename --remove /usr/bin/example

=>

sudo dpkg-divert --rename --remove /usr/lib/kde4/libexec/kdesu

and then install kdesudo_3.2-0ubuntu3. Hmm - maybe we have soon kdesudo_3.2-0ubuntu4 :P
