    Linux on Android

So decided to see if I can get Linux running on me phone.
What a mission ,but it works. Sucks on such a small screen though lol. Ah well ,just another thing to play with....

Interesting. I don't know much about doing this, and just gave myself a quick top-level orientation from Gemini re options.
Even putting a GUI on the phone, right? or mouse control (bluetooth or USB).
I would think it requires some minimal level of hardware (on the Android phone) so it works reasonably well and fast.
Tempting to try it! But at the moment I've got too many new things to "try."

Yea it's got Ubuntu 26.04 with xfce DE .
Mouse you just scroll around and tap with finger on screen.
      Got FF installed too lol.
      I used Andronix , Termux and Termux:X11
But yea ,on the small screen it's a bit of a hassle to really use ,it's more of a toy now lol. And I just wanted to see if I can do it.
BTW ,no need to root the phone

I think on a tablet this would be very nice.

                Pretty cool, die.boer.
And thanks for your reply to my post above.
As for how-to's, people might ask Gemini for guidance.
(It does, usually, also list the references it searches, btw.)

according to the google play store i can choose ubuntu + lxqt ... which is lubuntu

just like your ubuntu + xfce is the same as xubuntu.

i could even choose kubuntu for my tablet.

Something like 2 decades ago, Canonical announced a Linux phone+computer that would have a docking station so you cold use it like a PC when desired (keyboard, mouse, monitor, etc.). The design also had replaceable internals for future upgrades and a crystal screen rather than glass.

Alas, not enough interest or too expensive to get to production. I was all-in even at the astronomical price (for the time) of $800ish. Sigh...

Android has had such a desktop-like feature for quite a while now, minus the docking station, though not many phones have advertised it or included it. Samsung Dex, most LG phones (RIP). My pixel 7 doesn't; it doesn't even have video out from the USB-C port ffs. since Google are smart as rocks sometimes. It was, last I looked, quite rudimentary in terms of window management and multitasking, but was usable-ish.

The new pixelbook OS is as far as I can tell is Android in this sort of desktop mode, plus Debian in a VM for the Linux OS. So, down to one two OS running instead of two or three, like it is on Chromebooks lololol.

the lubuntu desktop runs on my tablet, but there are no apps to use... not even a terminal

the android app lets you add app icons to your android homescreen so that when you touch on them it launches the app in linux (such as the feather editor) but if you need to multitask in linux, forget about it.

Mine came pre installed with FF ,but the "unsandboxed" one.
Last night I could install Brave browser but it's also not sandboxed or something ,so removed it again.
Oh and came with the terminal too.
Haven't looked at really installing something else yet.
I can see I'm gonna delete the hole thing soon probably ,no real use for it lol.
