what is a TPU - and why should you care

stumbled on this article , never heard of TPU before ...
i kinda find it interesting ,to say the least
thought i'd come and share it here

Why Does Any of This Matter?
Because AI is no longer a research experiment. It's infrastructure. Every major product you use — search engines, photo apps, navigation, virtual assistants — runs on chips like these. Understanding what powers AI helps you understand where technology is genuinely heading, not just where the hype says it's going.

    EDIT:
oh , and then there is this too ...

its more efficient to run local models on a TPU than trying to shoe horn it into a GPU... they are not cheap tho, and you would need an extra slot and the PSU to run it.

the latest intel chips have one built in, tho i don't think they can compete with a dedicated TPU.

basically think the whole iGPU vs dGPU trend but for AI instead of gaming.

Missing Info: the name is: "Google Tensor Processing Unit"

Google BAD. I will avoid anything which uses a "TPU". Google BAD, BAD, BAD...
Kubuntu 25.10 64bit under Kernel 6.18.0, Hp Pavilion, 6MB ram. Stay away from all things Google...

        Top 5 AI-powered search engines

Let’s take a closer look at the top 5 AI-powered search engines making waves in the industry.

Before we get into the details, let’s look at what each of the top AI-powered search engines is best for:

Google Gemini. Best for generating detailed answers and summaries using natural language processing to enhance user search experiences.
Microsoft Copilot. Ideal for interactive searches with real-time conversations, thanks to its integration with ChatGPT.
You.com. Best for privacy-focused users who want ad-free, personalized search experiences while maintaining control over their data.
Perplexity AI. Excels at semantic search, offering contextually relevant results by understanding the meaning behind user queries.
Brave Search. Perfect for users prioritizing privacy, delivering accurate search results without tracking or collecting personal data.

Korean language is one of the top 4 or 5 most difficult languages for English speakers to learn.
I am totally blown away by how well Gemini serves as a 'personal tutor' for Korean grammar. And, it has always been able to access the internet.
I say "personal tutor" because if it gets to know you, it remembers things and tailors responses to your specific needs or interest.
Long story, but that's the bottom-line on Gemini, for me.
Both ChatGPT and Gemini have improved, earlier versions were not so slick or accurate.
In just the past couple years, I've seen how quickly and how well they have improved.
I'm pretty much stuck on Google's Gemini for that particular use, though.
ChatGPT's access to the internet through Bing, I believe, is "... predominantly available to paid subscribers (Plus, Team, Enterprise), though some limited access may exist elsewhere."
(Any of the AIs can and do make mistakes, but how to deal with that when it occurs is a topic for another thread sometime.)
