    California State Bill AB-1043 requires Linux to gather and share age data from users

    In October 2025 California passed into law a requirement that ALL operating systems, including Linux gather personal information from users and to share that data with application developers by 1 January 2027. There are heavy financial penalties for non-compliance.

    Anyone who develops operating system software or application software is directly affected and potentially liable.

    There doesn't seem to be any limitations on what applications are affected.
