For those that want to try Kubuntu 26.04 Resolute Racoon, it is better to take the snapshot versions instead daily build. The last one " SnapShot 3 " from 2026/01/29 install good with Calamares. After the install operation use discover to update.

In time: Daily Image below from today 2026/02/03 still has a problem. Use the snapshot 3 version above.

Tried an install of 26.04 and also got no further than the mounting of the partition stage. Installed KDE Neon instead.

Downloaded and installed snapshot 2 ... all ok
Updated 1330-odd packages and after rebooting had '.. faux_driver dell-pclatform_profile probe failed' on top of display, but no GUI.
Entered CTRL+ALT-F3 to enter text screen. Edited '/etc/default/grub' to make grub menu visible on bootup. Rebooted. Entered recovery, altered nothng, and was able to enter GUI, but seems laggy.
Is there a driver for Dell Inspiron laptops? It's a 2-core Celeron. Or do I leave KDE neon on here as that seemed to work without a problem... for now?

'WebGL Aquarium' gives me 4fps with 100 fish

This IS still early pre-release days with much in flux, particularly kernels and drivers. If If Nvidia drivers are involved, those can break once in a while while kernels are tweaked. If not, there may be a Mesa package lagging, or missing temporarily. Things like that. I'd wait until there is an official beta if this sort of thing is bothersome.

It's a laptop. I'll go back to 25.10 and wait for the release and see what happens.

I have been testing 26.04 resolute racoon daily builds. Not via KVM.

Anyway, there is a bug on Calamares Installer that prevents it to be installed using daily build 20260201 and daily build 20260202. At least for me and my setup. The bug happens exactly when doing partitioning setup for the disk. In my case: # erase disk and install #.

Daily Build 20263101 is working like a charm. On Index there is not this daily build anymore. Only 2026/02/01 and 2026/02/02.
Seems to be also happening for Lubuntu which uses calamares: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...s/+bug/2140539

OK... installed... So where are we ... so far... NOTE: If you can't handle blunt, to the point posts... move along.. move along... I am not the person who you want to read..... I'd say most have already made that step...

X11 RESTORED! - Don't even bother, it ain't happening. Thats the whole reason I am testing this (one last update to everything) , as this appears to be the KDE and Kubuntu swan song for me.. based on their plan to remove X11 in KDE 6.8? or so.. Sigh..
Again, no need to attempt to change my view, it taint happening. This is the Rubicon, and I go no further. Don't mind the grinding of axe sound... move along... move along..

                    LightDM installed - XDMCP ENABLED!

                    Synaptic installed

                    Issues:
Synaptic - Still the quick search/filter is missing ?? I thought this was restored? Or has not filtered down yet?? YES I installed apt-xapian-index, still the quick search/filter didn't appear... sighhh. Why do we keep breaking the nice things!

X11 Session seems to have several issues, slow response, to clicks, or no response to clicks at all. To get the display size correct, go to Display, select the size, click keep.. NOPE. Couldn't click that.. Had to use xrandr on CLI.. that stuck, thankfully. Repeating this to test things after a reboot of the VM, changing resolution and apply it changes, and stays. NO keep/revert dialog.. Overall it felt "buggy." Glitches here and there, slow click, random clikcs on things when it "caught up" to a click 10 seconds ago or so

The above shows that this needs attention on the X11 session. Not good.

LightDM - Login Screen/Greeter screen size wrong, but this happens in VBOX and VMW too, sometimes it corrects itself with guest-additions, sometimes not, a quick edit of lightdm.conf, annoying more than anything really, at least for now, in a VM, I don't care but it can at least it can be corrected, well, correctly.

Konsole - Where is the memo about removing the menu/tool bar as a default This is a bad move, yeah I think this has been growing since 22.04? or something, and its gotten worse... I am not sure what logic is in this, but it ain't any logic I apply.... shrug...

Somethings I have a glitch with as KVM and bridge aka real world networking don't seem to work on anything I tried. Why would any one default to NAT'd networking? For now the virt-manager connection is fine, but long term testing will need that resolved or even use of KVM.. bridge is a simple thing that VBOX and VMW do from the get go.. how is this not included and the default in KVM? ? ? ? ? ?

Now to desnap etc... restore Firefox... etc...

Yes , it seems lubuntu too. Like claydoh said: " this IS still early pre-release days ", so lets see how it performs in the next daily build or next snapshot.

Anyway, i still have a 20263101 daily build and it installs flawless. The problem started from 20260102 daily build.
