Here are some of my favorite programs I find useful in Linux. They are in alphabetical order. Most of them have a little explanation. If you have additional questions you can ask.

I think that is pretty much all of the app stores and package managers, lol. Except for Apper.
Quite redundant, but that is not always a negative thing.

I believe Kubuntu comes Muon Package Manager pre-installed. The other one (which is also handy) is Synaptic Package Manager and I believe it’s comes pre-installed in the Debian distro. Apper! You mean I missed one? (hehe)

I really enjoy “Shortwave”, the internet radio player. And I use a few Bluetooth speakers when I’m in the Kitchen. No matter what your taste is in music, you will find there.

I also really like, and frequently use, Clamav and Clamtk. One is the anti-virus itself and the other one the GUI. I have it set up so I can just right click on any file and have it scanned for viruses. This is especially helpful if it is not maintained by Canonical or some other trusted or well-known source.

Clamav and Clamtk.

these primarily are for scanning files for Windows viruses - email and file servers, that sort of thing. Not overly useful on Linux desktops, in most cases.

Dolphin: seems obvious but I use it a lot every day and it's the best file manager ever. hands down. Custom service menus are genius. Xtree Pro Gold was my previous favorite, LOL.

I use two browsers regularly: Vivaldi and Brave.

Still haven't found an eMail front end I love. I use Mailspring but it has occasional issues.

In the Kubuntu world I haven't found a package manager worth a crap. Muon was looking very good until the developer dropped it in 2015. The installers are pretty much garbage too, although Calamares is showing potential. I really miss Amarok. Strawberry just isn't more than just OK.

Konqueror, then Dolphin, is probably why I chose KDE back in the day. I didn't include this or Gwenview, since they are already included.

I missed mentioning mc. I was going to include Gimp, but it seems I have not used it since I last did a fresh install on a new ssd, sometime early this year? I never installed it.

My mostly used 6 applications are:

Konsole - as I check for updates daily
Thunderbird Mail
Chromium Web Browser - I no longer use Firefox as it fails on several of the sites that I use.
Kontact - I use this for all of my appointments as well as to check on past events.
Dolphin
LibreOffice Writer & Calc

In addition to the above list, there are another 12 applications that I find necessary but I use less often, say once per week or less:

Many thanks to the developers who have supplied such a great system which means I only visit my Windows 10 System occasionally to do updates which take for ever and I am so glad I am using Kubuntu Mantic.

You're welcome. It's always good to see what other people are using. Here is another one of my favorites and something that I use almost everyday. It's called uCareSystem-Core.

UCareSystem An all in one system update and maintenance tool for Ubuntu and Debian operating systems and derivatives

Updates the list of available packages

Downloads and installs the available updates

Checks if there are older Linux kernels on the system and removes them. It keeps the current kernel and one previous kernel

Cleans the cache of the downloaded packages

Removes obsolete packages

Removes orphan packets

Deletes package configuration files from packages that have been uninstalled by you

All of above tasks will be performed automatically without any user intervention

To install:

1. sudo add-apt-repository ppa: utappia/stable
2. sudo apt update
3. sudo apt install ucaresystem-core
4. sudo ucaresystem-core

Then sudo ucaresystem-core is what you use whenever you want to update your system.
