    Beaglebone Black?

Was wondering if anyone has had any experience with the beaglebone black. I was considering this route for a cheap family pc. It will only be used for web browsing and some kids movies (DVD'S). I assume the arm builds of Kubuntu will run decent on one of these boards? Maybe plasma active? I've never had any experience in this area.

Rats, I was looking forward to a detailed report. If you are asking for experience I have none. But, opinions are like rear ends, everybody has one. It would seem to me that with only 500M RAM KDE would suck. LXDE or XFCE may be better. The BBB comes with Angstrom Linux 3.8.6 (Pre-Loaded). Need to read up on that.

    Some possible info:
    http://www.angstrom-distribution.org/
    http://learn.adafruit.com/ssh-to-bea...r-usb/overview
    http://elinux.org/BeagleBone

Don't know how the BBB relates to the RPie. I suspect the RPie may be better at a TV set but BBB may excel at geeky stuff with electronics connected, robots, brewery control etc..

    Ken.

I had Kubuntu with the "kubuntu-low-fat-settings" running on an old single core/512 RAM PC. It was pretty decent. I didn't use it for any heavy lifting. Firefox was sluggish. Rekonq was decent, but was still pretty crashy at that time. The low fat settings, and disabling nepomuck/akondai got KDE down to about 137MB of RAM. Angstrom is pretty light weight for embedded devices. There are instructions here to get Ubuntu arm images going on it http://elinux.org/BeagleBoardUbuntu I have never had any experience with the pi/beaglebone devices, so was anxious about buying one.

My 2p: If you're just going to do web browsing and video playing, I wouldn't load a heavy DE like KDE. Even on low-fat it will be slower than LXDE or E17 (Enlightenment). Plasma active might work well though.
