If you want some serious bull**** read the comments on Phoronix. Phoronix comments generally come in three forms: idiotic, highly intelligent, Stallman worshiping crap. There is this one user funkStar or something who would rather see the world use rocks for computing than see KDE exist for another day.

Phoronix is unsurpassed for Linux-based entertainment! People think Larabel is clueless, too. I suspect he's built the entire thing primarily to be one giant time suck for everybody, and he just sits there laughing, while raking in the ad money.

Yeah probably. The thing is, he runs the types of stories I usually like. He needs to be get more serious with his benchmarking though and maybe stop sensationalizing so much. Also, he's far too Ubuntu centric. I know that's what drives page views but I want good quality multi-distro benchmarks. Also his gaming benchmarks are useless beyond useless and get even worse when he does his whole This DE is best for gaming articles. My biggest complaint with that site is the ads and the plagarism. I don't mind the ads (of which there are probably too many) but I do not want to see a metric crap load of Windows 8, Windows Server, Windows Phone 8, Microsoft Surface and Windows RT ads. That drives me nuts! Also, he needs to stop essentially ripping stories off and passing them off as his own. Or just taking the whole blog post and copy-pasting it and calling it an article.

Re: ads... An adblocker makes his site so much more tolerable. I'm using the one built into Konqueror, with Fanboy's list. I never see an ad on Larabel's site.

Re: stories... he could stand to diversify his links somewhat. He'll write about J. Random Thing, and sprinkle his articles with links to other of his own articles, but rarely to the thing he's writing about. Grrr.

But yeah, I agree, he's on top of the news usually, so I keep going back. And back. LOL.

I do use an adblocker on my phone (AdAway) and Firefox (AdBlock Plus) but I wouldn't mind disabling it to support him if the ads were less Microsoft-orientated. You should definitely try AdAway (only available on F-Droid since Google pulled it), it works in apps and in the browser but does require root.

I don't get it either. I've filed two bugs against efibootmgr, one of which is pretty major -- adding new NVRAM variables while booted into a 3.8 kernel simply fails. No action.

I've been thinking about filing a bug report after reading comments about the clockwise / anti-clockwise icon "bug" that has been reported. The "bug" I have discovered is that Ubuntu does not identify itself as a "GNU/Linux" or simply "Linux" operating system.

No point in protesting (points for the effort, though), these are the "bogus" bug reports Canonical pulls of every cycle, when they have already decided to "fix" them.

Always moronic, incredibly late in the cycle and filed by someone working for Canonical.

Common practice in any organization. An employee identifies a problem, and already knows how to fix it, but first that employee reports the problem, often exaggerating the importance of it, then after a suitable delay suddenly "discovers" a solution so that the employee gets credit for fixing a problem. Some employees will even go so far as to cause the problem in the first place. Cases have occurred of firefighters starting a fire so that they can get recognition for putting it out.
