My computer was freezing and spontaneously restarting quit often! Last night I noticed an error message during reboot that said something about a low memory error. It disappeared so fast that I barley had time to read it. I rebooted and told Grub II to run the memory checking program. I discovered 20 bad memory locations. Is there a program that allocates memory to programs in 14.06 and can I tell it to isolate the 20 bad memory locations? I will be moving soon and I will buy a new computer when I get to my new residence but in the meantime...

Bad memory
Just to remind users and devs that Ubuntu and its flavors have a long way to go to be as usr friendly as they should be.

If you have more than one stick and all the errors are on the same stick (likely) you could pull the bad one.
Also, try removing the RAM and re-seating it. Heat soak can cause things to move around a bit.

When I type memmap it says command not found. Does 16.04 use something else?Last edited by Snowhog; May 24, 2016, 04:01 PM.

memmap isn't a command you run in a console; it's a kernel 'option'.Originally posted by steve7233 View PostWhen I type memmap it says command not found. Does 16.04 use something else?Windows no longer obstruct my view.
Using Kubuntu Linux since March 23, 2007.

I tried pressing on the memory cards and slot clicked twice and slot clicked once. I ran the memory test again and t showed no errors! I am going to try playing a few youtube videos to see if the computer freezes or reboots. hopefully is solved. *Crosses fingers.

A next step could be to clean the RAM stick's contacts with a pencil eraser. Worked for me once. Just don't leave any rubber on the stick.Originally posted by steve7233 View PostI tried pressing on the memory cards and slot clicked twice and slot clicked once.
