KDE 4.5.1 - where is it?

Okay, so (supposedly) KDE 4.5.1 was released today. I've added the ppa:kubuntu-ppa/backports repository (to my VM 10.10 install) and updated the cache and ran dist-upgrade, but the only packages identified for upgrading are:

The following packages will be upgraded:
amarok amarok-common amarok-utils ifupdown kde-zeroconf kopete kppp krdc
    krfb libkopete4 ufw
11 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 1 not upgraded.
Pretty sure that isn't even close to what should be included in the 4.5.0 to 4.5.1 upgrade. Am I missing something?

Using Kubuntu Linux since March 23, 2007.

Probably the Maverick Beta release freeze delaying the 4.5.1 packaging (Beta should be released tomorrow).

(And you don't really need the backports ppa for maverick, basically all the new stuff will be included in the the devel release repos)

It's all packaged, we just can't upload it until after the maverick beta is released since we are in freeze. The freeze is there to get a stabilized base to build the ISO's from, as well as a stable base for testing to make sure that the live CD works, installs, etc.

The beta is released tomorrow (I think) so I would expect 4.5.1 to stream in in the next couple of days.

WOW! They released that fast. Right now my KDE4.5 has settled down a bit with use. Hopefully this release will solidify that!

I'm hoping 4.5.1 will solve some of the MANY issues I've had with 4.5.0 (to the point it's unusable).

              Strange world, isn't it?

Regardless of which version of KDE4 I have used I have always had an excellent experience with it, even with LL was in the alpha3 stage. KDE 4.50 has been, except for the Dolphin stutter, an exceptional performer. The best release of KDE4 yet, IMO.

Others seem to have an endless number of troubles with it. I would love to get my hands on a box that doesn't appear to run KDE4 well and go through it to see what the reasons are.

                I didn't think I needed to add it, but as I wasn't seeing the 4.5.1 I thought...
I'll go ahead and remove the ppa when I get home tonight.

Good to know that the release was 'delayed.' It would be nice if they would update the release schedule, which i looked at last night. It still showed that 4.5.1 was released yesterday. :P

KDE SC 4.5.1 was released yesterday by KDE developers.

However, kubuntu devs haven't been able to upload the kubuntu packages because of kubuntu beta release freeze.

fwiw - I got it yesterday on Arch and haven't noticed any difference...

                    Hang on, amarok just crashed

Did you build your system yourself? My systems were bought off the shelf. I really think a lot of problems many have are hardware related to some extent. Software is software from the repos and doesn't change but that software can operate differently just because of subtle hardware differences.

I haven't built any desktops in 10 years, and I have never built a laptop. I'm not even sure one can build a laptop out of stock parts because I doubt any are truly "stock".

I am using a mid-range laotop: a Sony VAIO VGN-FW140E. it is dual core and uses the GM45 video chip, also mid-range. I bought it new for a retirement gift to myself in August of 2008. When I first installed Linux on it (Mandriva 2009 PWP) I could only get VESA. A strange version of VESA because it gave me limited, 4 to 5 fps, acceleration. I later learned that it was using the i810 driver. I worked with the xorg developers to get full acceleration in Mandriva between September of 2008 and Feb of 2009. In Feb I saw the announcement for Kubuntu 9.04. It peaked my interest because it was featuring a version of KDE4 that Mandrava wasn't going to adopt until the spring or summer of 2010. So I booted the LiveCD and was startled to get immediately, out of the box, full acceleration! I checked the driver. it was the i915. So easy. IF I had only known I'd probably be still running Mandriva. Luckily, I found Kubuntu which is, IMO, a better distro than Mandriva. One reason is that Kubuntu is based on Debian. Another is that their KDE4 DE is always right there at the front, which I like.

                            Still no Kde 4.5.1...
I can't see the Maverick Beta either which should be released today.

The beta is released now so the 4.5.1 packages should be here pretty soon.

I wonder though, both the backports and kubuntu updates PPA's have KDE 4.5.x packages, what is the difference between these PPA's and which is the right one to use?
