Can't Install Kubuntu Because it Says Ethernet is Disconnected

This is a fresh build with an asus x870 P-csm motherboard and a very much live wired connection right into the wall. It's the same cable and plug I used on my old PC. The installer says it's disconnected and I'm now stuck. I don't know why the OS needs a Network connection to install in the first place.

Do you have an internet connection before you launch the installer? Like, choose "Try" instead of install and see if the network is up. If not, you probably need a specific driver or setting or your ethernet device isn't supported by the kernel.

You didn't say which version of Kubuntu or what ethernet device you have.

I think the installer wants to check for updates during installation.

And, as always, try unplugging the cable from the modem, wait 20 seconds, plug it back into the modem.
