    Automatic Server Logon & Sudo

    Hi,

I'm configuring a Kubuntu Server (latest) and trying to make it log on automatically.

In that respect I have already made it so I can simply click to log on but I would prefer it to boot straight to the desktop (like a Raspberry Pi does).

Also, like a Pi, I'd like to type "sudo su" from the command line and go straight in without a password, at least when connected remotely.

    Thanks

    James

I have not seen a server version of Kubuntu.

Using "regular" Kubuntu, automatic log in is done with SDDM.and can be set in System Settings > Colors & Themes > Login Screen (SDDM) > Behavior... then click the check box and select the username.

You would probably want to disable screen locking so you don't have to unlock the screen all the time, or at least make it a long time before locking.

As far as the sudo part, in the *buntu world it's usually sudo -i to open a root user session, but either command works. I'm unsure of the differences.

For that to be passwordless, I think you would have to create a file in /etc/sudoers.d/ with an entry to allow a no password entry into sudo su.

I hope this sever is not on the internet or in a physically accessible place. Doing the above things would make it the least secure server on the planet.
