install a package called `gddccontrol` and see if that gives you any additional access to monitor settings.

does the power management widget show that firefox is playing a video? when i play a video in mine it shows up there as an item that is preventing sleep and screen lock

also if you could share your power management system settings

under display and brightness, mine is set to when locked: 1 min, but there is a setting when locked and unlocked that will turn off the screen at the prescribed time even if the session is not locked (as i understand it)

you can also test you system control of the monitor by seeing your power button action to turn off screen and see if the power button works to turn off your screen..

faster1 - I think that the nvidia 560 drivers work with wayland.

I'm using x11. I tried installing wayland a while ago to use waydroid for Android emulation, but the wayland session doesn't work for me for some reason. It just boots into a black screen. I was told it might have something to do with my use of an Nvidia proprietary drivers.

Running the flatpak. Problem has persisted over many updates too. I think this started in August.

I tried that, but the only thing the monitor has is an auto-off setting, which I have disabled. The issue only happens in Kubuntu, and is not happening when I boot into Windows 11. I have a dual boot system. Kubuntu just isn't recognizing that a video is playing in the browser. It sleeps the monitor, and locks the user account.

I like this functionality for normal use, but I don't want it to happen when I watch videos.

FF *should* report to the OS/Plasma that it is playing a video, even if it isn't full-screen iirc. Not sure if this issue you see is flatpak thing or not.
I see it sometimes in the deb packages for the browser, but not when playing a movie using a video player.

But you can toggle this off/on from the battery or Power Management icon in your system tray if it is acting up.

started a topic Monitor goes to sleep when watching YouTube

Monitor goes to sleep when watching YouTube

Having a problem when watching long YouTube videos. My monitor is going to sleep. I don't see any setting to toggle this behaviour. It's good that the monitor would sleep, but it shouldn't happen when watching a video, right? I'm watching YouTube in the Firefox flatpak app. I don't recall this happening with the previous snap installation.
