    [Installation] kernel panic after upgrade

Hi, I have a dual boot setup windows/kubuntu. amd slimbook pro x.

Recently was prompted to update kubuntu as it will stop being updated. After running the updater it seemed to fail. File explorers would not open but web browser would pretty unusable. Next I rebooted to recovery and ran dpkg and defaulted to 'No' on any changes of modified config files by me or script and booted and everything seemed great. A pop up then followed saying a restart would be needed to finish installation. After restarting I ended up with a kernel panic. Recovery mode also is a kernel panic. There are no other kernels to choose from. Just a note the windows partition is working fine.

Can anyone help me fix this??

Honestly, it will take much less time to re-install than to try and replace the kernel.

A short explanation of what you'd have to do to fix it: Kernel panic usually means the initrd image is corrupted or missing a vital module. You'd have to boot to a live USB, chroot into the system, rebuild initramfs, and cross your fingers. It will take some preparation, research, time, swearing, and luck.

If you are wise and have /home on a separate partition (or in a separate subvolume) re-installation is a no brainer. I know it's a kind of a pain in the neck, but IMO it's the best option. If you do not have a separate home, make a backup of it now then restore it into your new installation.

Now it's time for me to preach about BTRFS: If you had used BTRFS as your file system, you could have made a snapshot of your OS before you attempted the upgrade. It takes about 5 seconds to restore the system's previous condition and reboot. You would have had time to re-attempt the upgrade or figure out how to fix it while still booting into your previous install, and when it was working, simply point fstab at your existing @home subvolume and go on with your day.

      I did a bootinfo summary report paste.ubuntu.com/p/sc92qYQCbX
It looks like it might be able to fix but I was advised not to attempt the autofix until it was reviewed. Its a bit over my head. does it look like this is possible or should i just go ahead and do a fresh install? was hoping to recover some apps and things. foolish me for not having a backup ha oshunluvr

The bootinfo summary report you linked to requires an Ubuntu Pastebin account (login) before it can be viewed. You should be able to post that report directly here; you have enough posts to allow that.

          Suggested repair: __________________________________________________ ____________

The default repair of the Boot-Repair utility would purge (in order to sign-grub) and reinstall the grub-efi-amd64-signed of
          nvme0n1p4,
          using the following options: nvme0n1p3/boot/efi,
Additional repair would be performed: unhide-bootmenu-10s win-legacy-basic-fix use-standard-efi-file

Final advice in case of suggested repair: ______________________________________

Please do not forget to make your UEFI firmware boot on the Ubuntu 22.04.1 LTS entry (nvme0n1p3/efi/****/shim****.efi (**** will be updated in the final message) file) !
If your computer reboots directly into Windows, try to change the boot order in your UEFI firmware.

If your UEFI firmware does not allow to change the boot order, change the default boot entry of the Windows bootloader.
For example you can boot into Windows, then type the following command in an admin command prompt:
bcdedit /set {bootmgr} path \EFI\****\shim****.efi (**** will be updated in the final message)
