How to change desktop background with Kubuntu 10.04

    Hi guys,

It's U again. Need more assistance here. Ive been trying to change the background image for about an hour using Kubuntu 10.04. I found
this awesome image online would be great for my background of my monitor.

Under windows, I'd just right click the file type and select "Set to Wall Paper"
Unfortunately, Kubuntu doesnt make it that simple.

So, I tried clicking the Start button, (K Button), click Applications Tab,
click System Settings. Now a new window opens up with a few titles,
Look & Feel, Personal, Networking & Connectivity, Computer Administration.

I'm pretty sure, I went through the Appearance, Desktop, and Window Behavior settings. Also tried the Display settings under Computer Administration.

Then, I did what anyone would do. Go on Google and go look for a solution.
My Google Kung Fu failed. Off to the forums for help.

Anyone have any tips about changing the desktop background?

    Thanks,

    - U

    Never Mind.

Figured it out. It just took a lot of random clicking.
There's this odd button on the top right corner of the screen.
I right clicked that and Click Desktop Activity Settings.

And there it is, Wall Paper Settings.
Ok, that needs to be more obvious how to set that.

Hi - just responding because I noticed your sig.

(K)Ubuntu products install perfectly on linux raid devices from the Alternate Install disk. The Alternate Install disk is an Install only Text mode disk rather than the pretty livecd version.

Frankly, I don't know why they can't reduce the graphic space a bit and include mdadm on the regular release, but that's up to the dev's.

You can move your install to raid devices and update your initramfs if you want to. Start a new thread and you'll get help.

        The KDE 4.4 supports drag&drop wallpapers - aseigo > scripting plasma-desktop:
...In other Plasma news, you can now drag-and-drop images, or any other file that a wallpaper plugin might in future support, to the desktop and have it become your wallpaper....

There should be a menu - what do you want to do the dropped image.

        Before you edit, BACKUP !

Why there are dead links ?

I'm sorry I've only just seen your post and I'm glad you've fixed it. However you can actually change the wallpaper in exactly the same manner and even with the same keystrokes as you would do in windows. Right click on desktop/desktop activity settings/wallpaper. The only difference is that windows "properties" equates to KDE4s "Desktop activity settings".

Taking things one stage further, do you use multiple desktops? If so, take a look at system settings/desktop/multiple desktops and select "different activity for each desktop". You can then configure each one entirely differently, including different desktops etc for each one.
