Black Screen at startup

I am trying to install Kubuntu on my pc.

I have an Nvidia 8800 GTS 512 vga and i use an lcd tv as monitor. I connect through a DVI-> HDMI cable.

i am starting from Kubuntu cd, but i cant get into gui, not even in the live environment.
It works fine with Windows 7 though?

Are there any particular steps i shoul do?

boot to livecd, select F4 - "Safe graphics Mode" and see if that works.
