Just a black screen and a cursor when installing

When I try to install Kubuntu 7.04 (32 bit) it ends up with a black screen and a blinking cursor. Pressing ctrl+alt+f1 brings some text and a prompt (ubuntu@ubuntu~$_).

    What to do?

Thanks! But the thing is, I don't even get to the point where I can make a user and a password. This cursor thing happens before the installation really begins...

Well, I'll try folowing the steps anyway and see what happens.

        OH.

OK, at the very first screen, you need to press F6 (I think it is), depending on whether you are using the Live CD or the Alternate Install CD. There are some different boot options -- noapci and nolapic are ones that I most often hear solve that problem.

Yes! Problem solved! I used hdmi cable and samsung lcd tv first. Then I switched to vga cable and the GUI started!
