I have been using Ubuntu on my laptop for the last 5 years, and I like the ease with which I can update Ubuntu's software. Does Kubuntu have the same update scheme as Ubuntu?

It is exactly the same as Ubuntu, as it *is* Ubuntu, just with a better looking desktop
Discover is an 'app' store similar to Gnome Software, and can also update Snaps/Flatpaks if you use those. It also can update look-and-feel theme stuff as well.
Apt in the terminal work identically, and Synaptic and/or Muon are available for GUI package management tasks.Self-built: Asus PRIME B550M-K/Ryzen 5600GT/32Gb/Intel ARC B580 12Gb/KDE neon

So much so you can just "upgrade"
your current Ubuntu by
1) make a backup
2) sudo apt install kde-plasma-desktop
which will give you Ubuntu with KDE.
sudo apt install kde-full will give you that plus the full set of KDE apps, turning your OS into (pretty much) Kubuntu
I just did it recently on a friend's laptop running Mint 20, worked like a charm.
