[RESOLVED] Ventoy......... I know im missing something obvious as it really cant be this clunky....

So i need to create a ventoy usb disk on my shiny new Kubuntu install. So i goto google type ventoy download linux Ubuntu and then it all goes horribly wrong.

Every guide I goto tell me a different thing every time i follow then (Bare in mind its me so following probably being generous) just leads to more confusion.

Why isnt it in Discover or a downloadable click and go format. A web link? Really I thought we wanted people to use Linux?

Ok rant aside please for love of sanity how do i make this work with out going into arcane vodo script (Konsole) ty in advance for anyone who can help.

Click the link to download Ventoy for linux: https://sourceforge.net/projects/ven...ar.gz/download

Unpack the .tar.gz file and move inside the newly created folder, double-click the x86 executable to run ventoy.

ok great it works i knew it had to be simpler than the mess I was following thanks mate.

        One question

can i get a link to the exe on my desktop rather than jumping to the folder? I tried creating a link and dragging a link but both said run from the folder it was in? Isnt that the point of a link?

you will likely need to make a .desktop entry for it

it's easy to do using the application editor GUI that you will find when right clicking on the application menu icon in the task bar.

pick a category and add an entry

give it a name and description of your choosing and point it at the executable from the folder (along with any command line arguments you might want to add)

you can also assign an icon to it

          don't forget to hit SAVE.

now you should have a new item in the applications menu you can click on to open it or drag to favorites, or pin to the task bar.... just like any other application.

I thought that for typical usage of Ventoy, one runs the installed application once, to make a Ventoy bootable USB stick or drive. Then one just copies isos (carefully) to that storage. I've used the same Ventoy stick for years. Am I missing something?

speaking for my own needs, i like to keep any software tools that i install (however they are installed/downloaded) handy by access via the applications menu like any other app.

i put my ventoy folder in `~/bin` and made a .desktop file for it so its just like any other app on my system.
