My Google search: ubuntu linux are there things that apt won't update but Discover does?

    AI answer:

Yes. The terminal tool apt only updates software installed via traditional Debian .deb packages from your configured repositories. In contrast, the graphical KDE Discover software center can manage and update multiple packaging formats, including Flatpaks, Snaps, and firmware.

    Specifically, Discover will update:
    • Flatpaks: Sandboxed apps (common on newer Ubuntu/Kubuntu systems) are managed by Flatpak, which apt cannot see or update.
    • Snaps: Canonical’s containerized packages. While Snaps auto-update, Discover allows you to manually check and apply updates for them.
    • Firmware: Discover checks for and installs system hardware/BIOS/UEFI updates via fwupd

Windows no longer obstruct my view.
