are "modular" power supply SATA power cables interchangeable?

Last night, while in use, my desktop shut off and wouldn't power on. Going through my limited repertoire of things to try, I bumped the CPU power socket and the computer came on (at which point I got backups in order). Then it didn't, and after a bunch of cable reseating, on once more, then not. Diagnosis, failed or failing power supply, off to get a new one.

The new supply came with 3 sockets for SATA power, but only two such cables. The sockets are the same as the old power supply. By same I mean the same combination of square, rounded, and half-rounded sockets, so that the old power supply's SATA power cables will fit. Can I use one of the old cables safely?

The sockets and connectors may be the same but the pins may be different. On my last build, I had a modular PSU, and I did need to make sure the sleeved and combed extensions (for looks) matched the brand. I believe many are identical but I would not bank on it.
