Thanks. Didn't even think of that, as it becomes a link to a link

For those who are able to update to version 2020.11.01.1, please tell me which repository contains that latest version?
I'm unable to get my Kubuntu 20.04.1 install to find the latest update. This is what I'm getting:

        sudo youtube-dl -U
        Usage: youtube-dl [OPTIONS] URL [URL...]

youtube-dl: error: youtube-dl's self-update mechanism is disabled on Debian.
        Please update youtube-dl using apt(8).
See https://packages.debian.org/sid/youtube-dl for the latest packaged version.
As I noted, earlier, packages.debian.org does not have that newer version of youtube-dl
        Thanks

Just came across youtube-dl as a ppa. The ppa belongs to Unit 193 who is closely involved in *buntu: https://launchpad.net/~unit193

I'd feel pretty comfortable with software from Unit 193's ppa. (I have inxi from Unit 193's inxi ppa.)

And update to version 2020.11.17 works again, using:
                    sudo youtube-dl -U

From where did you install youtube-dl? Why the mention of Debian?

I think it is safe to ask here. Is there any GUI version of youtube-dl which we can use ? Or any other methods ? I find it hard to follow certain tutorials while they are streaming online. Much easier to move back and front when it is offline. Also, the clarity varies a lot when I receive them as streaming. ie, when I watch a video it suddenly blurs and I lose the flow and an important part. I hope you will understand.

Not that I know of. youtube-dl just downloads YT videos and you play them at your leisure on your favorite video application.
