Avidemux: Total confusion on the project?

    Hello all,

the project is quite old, but in my opinion, it's one of the best simple video editing programs that also works with GPU support. I just took a new look at the Avidemux project. But based on what I found, it's completely confusing me, and I'm not sure where I can still safely install Avidemux.

Avidemux is available via the following download/installation options (some downloads were hard to find):
What do you think about this situation?

I would go with the first if you wanted to stick with .deb packaging and have the "high level of trust", otherwise I would go with the second (Appimage), again for the "high level of trust". Just my .

I just saw that this PPA, xtradeb, is also being promoted directly: https://avidemux.sourceforge.net/download.html

I just tested the DEB packages from here: https://www.avidemux.org/nightly/ubuntu2604/ and the Appimage from here: https://www.avidemux.org/nightly/appImage/

Unfortunately, there's no hardware acceleration for VAAPI (AMD). So it's no fun. I'm going to try the ones from the PPA now.

Flatpak also works with full hardware support. That's strange.

Edit: The packages from PPA https://launchpad.net/~xtradeb/+archive/ubuntu/apps also work with hardware acceleration. It would be nice if maybe some order could be brought to this... A minor disadvantage of OpenSource.
