    you tube and google

so I was playing around with a hex editor today ,,,as inspired by a link in this post https://www.kubuntuforums.net/showth...l=1#post403453

and decided to open a .mp4 video with OKteta ,,,,,LOL

specifically DIO - Rainbow In The Dark Official Video Clip .mp4 DL'd from youtube ,,,,,,,,

I have always wandered how some videos that you would think they could not post due to copyright could stay up ,,,,(one of my screen casts got baned in some places just because of sound track in the background ) ,,,,,,,well at the very end of the .mp4 file ,,,,,was this

    Code:
    00B9:EC10 | 25 C2 03 B3 A8 C3 4C 53 85 EC A2 F1 76 F1 9C 1D | %Â.³¨ÃLS.ì¢ñvñ..
    00B9:EC20 | 6F 1D 80 00 00 00 29 66 72 65 65 49 73 6F 4D 65 | o...)[COLOR=#ff0000]freeIsoMe[/COLOR]
    00B9:EC30 | 64 69 61 20 46 69 6C 65 20 50 72 6F 64 75 63 65 | [COLOR=#ff0000]dia File Produce[/COLOR]
    00B9:EC40 | 64 20 42 79 20 47 6F 6F 67 6C 65 00 | [COLOR=#ff0000]d By Google.[/COLOR]
    ? go figure

So can I assume that because it plainly states inside the video file that it is a "FREE ISO media file" that I can do whatever I would like with it ? ,,,repost it , burn and share , torrent , whatever.

With music videos, people slightly up the speed so it's not really noticeable to people listening but fools whatever detection technology is used. Another way is to crop the video.

Edit: That clip is 3.59, the song length is actually 4.14

Nice bit of sleuthing there Vinny!

I've played around with hex editors myself since my earliest days of computing. It's very interesting to search for strings in files that you wouldn't assume have messages in them. Occasionally you can find "Easter eggs" and messages in executables that programmers have left in code. Sometimes quite amusing messages!

I just had a look at one of the links posted by QqMike in that other thread you mentioned: https://www.howtogeek.com/201059/mag...de-in-your-pc/ ... really interesting stuff.

I don't think the "free" string is part of the "IsoMedia" metadata (otherwise it would read "free IsoMedia" and not "freeIsoMedia"). The string looks like standard audio metadata string from google videos, below is an excerpt from an mp4 video downloaded from youtube (it's the audio metadata from the mp4 file read with the "mediainfo" command):
        Code:
        [FONT=monospace]Audio

Isn't it nice that Google can take public domain property and put their copyright on it?
