    coverflow [solved]

i used to use that in songbird.. it stopped support for linux. then i found about coverbling for amarok.
but was discontinued coz of some patent issue..

i even tried the banshee in linux mint.
    but stuck at:
    Code:
    kapil@asus ~/clutter $ ./autogen.sh
I am going to run ./configure with no arguments - if you wish
to pass any to it, please specify them on the ./autogen.sh command line.
    autoreconf: Entering directory `.'
    autoreconf: running: autopoint --force
Can't exec "autopoint": No such file or directory at /usr/share/autoconf/Autom4te/FileUtils.pm line 345.
autoreconf: failed to run autopoint: No such file or directory
autoreconf: autopoint is needed because this package uses Gettext
    so...
    1. does any of you use coverflow in amarok.. if so.. plzzzz share how did u do that..
    OR
    2. how to get rid of above mentioned error..

    thanks in advance

          [img width=400 height=300]http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c291/vinnywright/XBMCmedia.png[/img]

          media info

screeneys taken in windowed mode but you can run in full screen or as a login at the login window (as if chosing fluxbox,XFCE4, Gnome, KDE whatever window manager) but if using the default Kubuntu network manager you wont have net if using as a login and you must have net to DL media info/cover art .
if you uninstall the Kubuntu network manager and use the default Gnome/Ubuntu one you have net at boot instead of after login ......I'm thinking ...or have read.

or as I have done use windowed/full screen moad to get the info/alblem art and then worry about using as a login 8)

this app, xbmc really piques my interest, I tried the install and the after the subversion and git I have the reply that there is a xbmc folder that is not empty, but I find no executable.

            any thoughts?

well, for what it is worth, I went through "the install" from several sites, enabling lucid, etc. , apparently, and I say apparently, something installed because there is a BUNCH of stuff in xbmc in Amarok under:
              the blue folder
              files
              xbmc

                    Re: coverflow

                    Hi
I went through that install and kept getting couldn't find the xbmc package so I went through subversion and got a bunch of packages in a folder like a visualization but the visualization wouldn't "run" and I couldn't find anything in Amarok to run it.

There is also "xbmc" live in the repos when the process is done, but I couldn't install xbmc or xbmc-live it said that there was a dependency problem, I think libvideocodec or something, there was also instructions on a site to change the xbmc ppa from maveric to lucid, none of the stuff worked.

In one of the many go-arounds on this the "installer" said that there was a "non-empty" folder for xbmc on the machine and there is that but there is no executable.

So, if there is a "way" to actually get an operational copy of "xbmc" on the machine, I think all of the other stuff is there and I'd give a go at trying to get it running.

There are SEVERAL threads on the net, and especially at Ubu that say...."this will do it" and then it doesn't.

                      Re: coverflow

We seem to be getting into the habit of hijacking/changing topics midstream here ak KFN lately :/

if you followed the directions *exactly* as noted in the xbmc link, (the 4 command-line steps) you will have xbmc installed on your system - the menu entry is in the multimedia section. XBMC is PC Media Center software and has nothing to do with Amarok .You don't want the xbmc-live package. Aslo note that the ppa is for LUCID, there are no Maverick Packages for xbmc in that PPA You have to go into KPAckageKit, edit the Software Sources entries for the PPA from Maverick to Lucid, reload and try installing again.

What you downloaded from subversion is the raw code that would need to be compiled/built by hand, and then installed (along with a ton of build dependencies)

                        Hi
Im sorry about hijacking the thread, and should not have gone off topic, and for that I apologize.

However, I did follow "exactly" the steps and have, it seems, all of the attendant files and dependencies but not the actual application itself.

I would be glad to go through the steps again, and take screenys and post them of each of the steps, but following the "steps" I got the could not find the package response.

And, again, I apologize for going off topic.

                          Re: coverflow

Note I said "we" not "you" so don't take it personally at all.

                          so:

                          Code:
                          sudo add-apt-repository ppa:team-xbmc
                          check
                          Code:
                          sudo apt-get update
                          check
                          Code:
                          gus@gus-laptop:~$ sudo apt-get install xbmc
                          Reading package lists... Done
                          Building dependency tree
                          Reading state information... Done
E: Unable to locate package xbmc
                          oops!

Then you need to edit the repositories from within kpackagekit, as mentioned. You go to
Settings -- Edit Origns -- Other Software tab -- click on each xbmc line, select "edit" and change "maverick" to 'lucid' for both of them

once that has been done, it will try and refresh

but to be sure, check for updates in kpk, then try looking for xbmc again

                          run
                          sudo apt-get install xbmc
if you have problems, and post any error messages

sorey ben away .......eney way my /etc/apt/sources.list line looks like this

you want at least "xbmc,xbmc-bin,xbmc-cover,xbmc-data,xbmc-standalone" + a skin or 2

and think I started off reading this page and some of the related links.

                              Hi claydoh

I did all of that twice and got the same results. So, I'll just let it go and maybe it will work when we go to noosie noobie or whatever...

                              thanks for the help though.
