Need help selecting a video card in laptop

I am searching for a new laptop. Most new ones come with Intel GMA 4500 MHD
or
nVidia 9600M GT or 9800M GT.

I want stable but still good graphics. What do I get? The hardware compat list says no 3D with 9800, but I think that might be out of date.

Please help me decide. I really need a new laptop but want to make sure I get good linux supported hardware.

I would be adventurous and go for the 9800. Even if it doesn't have support today (which it might, I don't know), it will have it eventually, and that probably means within a month or two.
