[SOLVED] subscribe button fails "Sorry, you are not authorized to view this page"

I tried to subscribe to a forum in the new 21.10 section, but I get an error pop-up titled "SUBSCRIBE" with the message "Sorry, you are not authorized to view this page".

I can unsubscribe to a forum I'm subscribed to, but then get the error if I try to resubscribe.
