I think it would be awesome if the kde userbase wiki were expanded by more kde users , In all reality, there are really only a few differences in how KDE works between distros, and that is mostly package management tools, and the differences between the version of KDE that is current in that distro. However, the Userbase is not the likely first stop for a lot of people.

Also dont forget the very good KDE help files installed along with Kubuntu. Going into Help gives you a good start when you need help and has links to the KDE wiki/manual online.

I do agree with sealbhach though and think that something along the lines of OMGUbuntu would be good for KDE. (But please for the love of god dont call it OMGsomething...) It would be nice to have well written articles about new programs and upcoming KDE features.

On my blog I put together a resource page http://www.bluemintlinux.com/p/parti...d-discuss.html whereby I try to list all of the resources available to a new user. There's a lot of resources out there. Maybe the Kubuntu Wiki should simply have a section for users similar to this instead of trying to aggregate all this information for users into itself.

I agree with this, but the question is that is it worth the extra maintenance.

As for the official kubuntu wiki... it seems very developer focused... I couldn't find any user content at all from a quick browse which will turn new users off it.

I'd have to agree here with whatthefunk here. Kubuntu (and Xubuntu, Lubuntu, etc.) is basically Ubuntu (base) with KDE (XFCE, LXDE, other DE/WM) used instead of GNOME w/ Unity. There may be different PM's used (Muon instead of Synaptic, though nothing stops you from using the latter) but it 's all still APT/dpkgin the core of *buntu. Any Kubuntu wiki, then, would just be the KDE and Ubuntu wikis copied almost verbatim (though not all of Ubuntu wiki concerning Unity).

I think there might be scope to have something like OMGubuntu for Kubuntu or KDE distros. There are some Kubuntu and KDE news blogs out there but they all appear to be aimed towards developers rather than end users. There are new plasmoids and updates of great but little known kde apps all the time that we don't get to hear much about. I have an RSS feed from http://kde-apps.org/ but I'm sure there's a lot more going in in KDE and Qt that we would be interested in.

Yes, but all the software in KDE is covered in the KDE wiki pages. I can think of ver little that is not covered by either Ubuntu wiki or KDE wiki.

Yes a better Kubuntu wiki would be a nice addition. Maybe a better link from the front page.

You should hit me up if there are things to clean up or create; I need to get back into the wiki thing again.

Not to downplay them, but working on a wiki page, staring at the text too long always seemed to help me fall asleep and I often have trouble with slumber these days/nights
