Re: Some Forum Questions and Suggestions

There are a couple other subactions that I know of, like news, profile, and members. The only useful one is recent. You can check simplemachines.org for more info if you like. That's where I got this information. Also you can post the #'s here, or PM me and I will post them in the Administrative Announcements section. But right now, my wife is waiting for me to watch a movie. Let me know if there are any problems with the feed.

Thank you so much for your efforts, Open Source!! The RSS is the best! I'll give it a few hours/days to test it out. But so far it's working fine.

Here's the List of Forum sections and their corresponding numbers for the RSS feeds per section.

The RSS-feed is working nicely, thanks for that. A great addition to the functionality of the forum

Re: Some Forum Questions and Suggestions

          Can I some more questions?
          1. What's the difference of posting on the main part of the Documentation section and on the Customization/Optimization sub-section?
          2. What's the difference of posting on the main part of the Off Topic section and on the Anything section?

The first question is more related to my upcoming project to port (that is, copy-paste-quote ) some of the HOWTO's from ubuntuforums.org to this forum.

Re: Some Forum Questions and Suggestions

The difference is that there should not really be any posts under off topic technically. All off topic posts should be listed under anything. Consider Kubuntuforums.net as a whole, a forum. Then every category (i.e. Discussion, General, etc.) would be a subforum. There are no posts directly under Kubuntuforums.net, instead they each fit into a "sub-forum". The difference between Documentation and customization is that, documentation should contain general, common, how tos for Kubuntu whereas customization should contain, extra more in depth specialty how tos (stuff you don't need to know or do, but is fun to try). If this isn't clear, please reply.

Re: Some Forum Questions and Suggestions

I think what we need is a sticky post or something that everyone has to look at the first time they try to post that tells them what goes where. I don't recall seeing anything like myself when I joined. I'm going to bed now, but I'll try to do a draft tomorrow.

Please let me know if there already is such a thing and I missed it.

Re: Some Forum Questions and Suggestions

Sorry for the not-so-immediate response. My sister had to use the PC (using XP... yuck. )

                So if I understand correctly:
Off-topic: should have no posts directly in it. Everything in there should be under Anything else (or the appropriate sub-section).
Documentation: for the general and essential how-to's, while the customization is for the more in-depth but non-essential part? Kinda confusing distinction, but should work So for example, if I were to quote-post the "HOWTO: Latest NVIDIA drivers" from the other side, I post it in the main Documentation part? But if I were to quote-post, say the "HOWTO speed up boot process using InitNG" or the "HOWTO for Composite Managers" I'd post it in the Customization/Optimization section?

@askrieger: I don't think there is such a thing, and I think that something like that would be good. Maybe in the FAQ section or the Forum rules? Do we even have a "forum rules" thread?

Re: Some Forum Questions and Suggestions

There is no description on how to or where to post topics as of yet.

Jucato: you are correct in your examples; that is the purpose of those forums/subforums.

Askrieger: that would be great if you could write something up to post in the administrative announcements as a sticky.

I'll get to work on it, tonight, but I'll be stealing a lot from your previous post
