On startup, does not display OS choices for HP touchsmart 300

I very recently switched from Windows to linux and installed Ubuntu 10.4 on my old computer because it was the newest version that fufilled System Requirements. When my computer would boot, it would display a list of operating systems to choose from. Knowing this, I installed Kubuntu 17.10.1 on my newer machine.

The OS would only display my SD card when I would install Kubuntu. Seeing no danger, I went ahead and installed. As soon as I rebooted my computer, it started Windows 7.

Are you saying that you installed it to an sdcard? Your machine may not boot to an sdcard, or you may have to go in to your bios and adjust the boot order there.
