    Linux broadband router

    I can
    1. Setup DHCP server
    2. Setup transparent proxy/NAT

    I want,
    1. A one place to see current clients having IP from this DHCP server.
    2. A way to restrict peoples using my network from wifi (I know I can use iptables, but I want something like broadband routers if possible)

    3. peoples to supply some kind of password in order to get into my network.

    any idea/link ?

    many thnx in advance.
    cheers!

    What kind of router? (make/model)..

1)Some routers will show who is on the network and what there assigned IP address is.

2-3)If I remember correctly most wifi routers you can set up a encrypted network and not allow anyone one unless you specify there login & encryption key. Not sure if that can be used on Linux or not.

    Cheers,
    Joey

Ahh, you just need to setup Linux as I login server with one of those 4 port eithernet cards.
To be honest I never set this up by myself before. One of my old freinds Gabe used to setup the logins and such when we worked for a ISP. He was going to teach me until I got pissed at our boss and quite.
Kubuntu should be able to do it all, just enable remote login (ssh I think), but block all outside connections via firewall so that only personel within the network can log in and add them as users.
Should be able to set when they can atualy log in and how long. Enable DCHP on the linux box and just set the users permissions. Not sure if there is more to do. Like I siad Gabe used to handle all this and I just looked over his shoulder back then (year 1999). The reason its so hard to remember is that he was a slack user and EVERTYHING was always in console.
        Cheers,
        Joey
