[SOLVED] 24.7 MB of additional disk space will be used

I just got an update to Kubuntu 18.04:

    Code:
The following packages will be upgraded:
     libnuma1 linux-firmware login passwd
4 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
Need to get 71.3 MB of archives.
After this operation, 24.7 MB of additional disk space will be used.
It seems to be due to the updated linux-firmware because the other packages are tiny:
    login amd64 1:4.5-1ubuntu2 [308 kB]
    passwd amd64 1:4.5-1ubuntu2 [816 kB]
    libnuma1 amd64 2.0.11-2.1ubuntu0.1 [22.0 kB]
    linux-firmware all 1.173.5 [70.2 MB]

I find it "interesting" that linux-firmware has grown by 24.7 MB!

Does anyone have any idea about why?

Look at the changelog. That will usually give a clue:

    https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source...rmware/1.173.5

Updating firmware in many cases will increase sizes, but there are also complete additions which probably account for most of the size change. For example, just the new iwlwifi additions add over 10MB of binary firmware.

So I'll not be surprised in the future
